Brgy Baroro Comfort Room Project

Initially VFW Post 9892 was given a donation by the family of Pat McPherson for a community service project as a memorial to Pat who has passed away. The post reviewed an number of candidate projects which was to be a joint effort, VFW Post 9892 to provide materials, the selected barangay (village) to provide the labor.

Barangay Baroro, a coastal village located in Bacnotan, La Union was seeking assistance to construct a public restroom/comfort room at their new auditorium. The multi-purpose audotorium is used to hold youth sports activities and other civic and social events, but had run out of budget before a comfort room for visitors could be constructed.

Realizing that material costs would exceed the amount provided by the McPherson fund a motion was made to use some of the Post's funds and also make a request for additional financial assistance from VFW National. The motion was approved and National did provide the requested funding.

Materials we provided to the barangay incrementally during the construction, the residents willingly provided the labor. As many had days jobs the would work on the project for a few hours before heading off to work or in the evening hours after work.

The project was completed in May 2019, a plaque undraping ceremony was held on May 18, 2018. This was a major success highlighting how the the VFW Post and local governments units can work together for quality of life improvement projects.
